BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Local libraries are going digital and they received hundreds of thousands of dollars to help make the transition.
On Wednesday, the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library received a federal grant of almost $320,000. It will help fund "The Public Library as Digitized Commons" project, which started back in 2009. The project will create a first-ever inventory of resources in a searchable digital database.
Michael Frisch of Randforce Associates said, "To make these stories usable, to really open up the contents so that people can get to it, find things in it, respond to it and add to it. And we're now involved in expanding that."
The two-year grant was one of 52 leadership grants handed out across the nation by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
