BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Meals on Wheels customers had some new faces helping deliver food to homebound seniors on Wednesday.
Local government officials from all over Western New York helped out during a program called "Mayors for Meals" today. Mayors, supervisors, and lawmakers packed up and delivered food with the Meals on Wheels program.
Erie County Legislator Thomas Mazur said, "They have tremendous support in the legislature. We know how vital these services are. We know the key element to wellness in the community is to keep people home."
Meals on Wheels President and CEO Tara Ellis said, "It's really neat to see their faces light up and they see the person who they normally only see on TV standing there with their food for that day. It's quite a treat for the clients."
Meals on Wheels serves more than 3,500 homebound seniors and people with disabilities each year.
