AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) - A new memorial sign has been erected at the makeshift memorial along Heim Road, where 18-year-old Alix Rice was hit and killed last year.
Rice was struck and killed last July while riding her skateboard home from work. After one of the most high-profile criminal trials in local history, Dr. James Corasanti was acquitted of the most serious charges, but was found guilty of misdemeanor DWI.
The verdict prompted public outrage and more questions about the legal system. Dr. corasanti could receive a year behind bars on Thursday.
