CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Celebrating Christmas with family is truly what the season is all about. This year, some local military families are getting the gift of having their family together once again.

For those who had loves ones come home for the holidays, they all agreed it was one of the best gifts they could've gotten.

Patty and David Pfister had their son Jason return home Sunday and they were ecstatic.

The soldiers father says, "He's a great kid. He joined the Army a couple years ago. Very proud of him. He went to Afghanistan and unfortunately he got injured. He's coming home for good today and this is the best possible Christmas present we could get this year."

The proud soldier's parents said that Jason has been counting down the hours before he gets back to New York.

The Pfisters were one of several families who played the waiting game this weekend for their soldiers to come home this Christmas season.

As the soldiers came home at the Buffalo-Niagara Airport, perfect strangers shook hands and applauded followed with happy tears and smiles.
