Near Powerball win nets WNY man $2M

HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Hamburg man came one number short from hitting the Powerball jackpot, but he's still getting $2 million for coming close.
Stanley Scott is a father of three and grandfather of seven who every Sunday buys a newspaper and his lottery tickets. On September 23, the 70-year-old bought 10 sets of Quick Pick numbers for the Powerball game at the 7-Eleven on Lake Shore Road in Hamburg. One of those tickets was a winner when the numbers were drawn on September 26, worth $1 million. And because Scott opted to utilize the Power Play option, his prize was doubled.
Scott claimed his prize two days later, and will be awarded a one-time net payment of $1,323,600 after required withholdings. An Iowa couple had the sole jackpot-winning ticket, worth $202,100,000.
Still, Scott isn't complaining. The medical professional said, "I'll start a retirement investment fund... not that I have any plans to retire any time soon."
