BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Erie County Clerk has made available forms for pistol permit holders to opt out of allowing their information to be made public.
The forms came in response to Freedom of Information requests from newspapers for pistol permits, which are public records. Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs denied the request from The Buffalo News for the records. The Buffalo News stated it never intended to release the files, but rather it intended to keep its own database for internal use.
Pistol permit holders can obtain a copy of the opt out form here: www.erie.gov/optout
Auto bureaus will have the forms available next Tuesday.
