AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) - Residents packed the Amherst Town Hall Tuesday night for the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting.

Nearly everyone there wanted the opportunity to speak out about Iskalo Development's plan to build a six-floor Hyatt Place Hotel behind the Lord Amherst Motel on Main Street.

One resident said, "Just because a developer chooses to propose a building that's too big for the site selected does not mean the town's development requirements should be waived. Just because the owner maintains that a 130-room hotel is the only feasible building for that site doesn't make it so."

The Zoning Board needs to approve nine variances before Iskalo Development can move forward with the project. Another hearing is scheduled to take place in February.
