BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Keeping all of the roads in western New York clear is easier said than done.
State DOT crews were out in full force on Friday, plowing the roads most traveled. Michael Ciancio was working to dig out the Northtowns since 4 a.m.
"It can be difficult, but there's not much you can do. You just keep going...that's all you can do. Start at one end go around and do it again," he said. "We had everything pre-treated with the salt before the storm came, and it worked out good. The roads are staying passable and every time you plow them, they seem pretty clean."
Drivers spend at least eight hours in a plow truck, handling the gears, controlling the plow, the wings, salting, and all while keeping a firm hand on the wheel.
"We're out there for a reason. So if you see us coming, stay away, stay back," Ciancio said. "It's hard enough, but if you got to deal with traffic it gets even harder. We're out there to help you."
