WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) - Williamsville Mayor Brian Kulpa is taking a stand against the State Thruway Authority's plan to raise tolls for truckers by 45 percent.
Kulpa says doing that will only drive more truck traffic onto Main Street, essentially creating a highway down the center of the village.
"We understand there's going to be volume. There just is. Bottom line... our pedestrians, our business users, our local community needs to come first. And not the commuting traffic, not the heavy commercial volumes that we stand the chance of seeing," Mayor Kulpa said.
He would also like to see state lawmakers put more pressure on the Thruway Authority to remove the Williamsville toll barriers altogether.
