Truck loses brakes going down hill

BOSTON, N.Y. (WIVB) - State Police say a Town of Boston woman is lucky to be alive after colliding with a runaway dump truck pulling a trailer that was carrying a skid steer.

Just before noon on Friday, troopers say 40-year-old Gasperino Fulfaro of East Amherst was traveling on Liebler Road when he lost his brakes going down a steep hill. Unable to stop and with homes on both sides of the road, Fulfaro continued forward and through the intersection at Boston State Road.

State Police say at that time, 64-year-old Linda Prell entered the intersection and smashed into the side of the truck. Prell's vehicle suffered heavy front end damage and was dragged along the path of destruction that went a distance of 600 feet from where the truck left the roadway.

Incredibly, Prell suffered only minor bumps and bruises. She was taken to ECMC for evaluation. Troopers say had she entered the intersection just a moment earlier, her car would have been T-boned by the dump truck, and the result would likely have been tragic.

Fulfaro was shaken by the accident, but otherwise okay. His truck tore up a private yard and took down a chain link fence, knocked down a utility pole and came to rest next to a public fishing pond.

Charges are expected to be filled against Fulfaro after an inspection is completed of his truck.
