CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) - A local veteran is settling into a new home thanks to a national non-profit group.
Retired Sergeant Rudy McGoy served his country overseas, and now Operation Homefront and Chase are ensuring he and his family have a new home, with no strings attached. The deserving veteran will not have to worry about mortgage payments.
The ceremonial key-handover of the mortgage-free home took place Thursday afternoon in Cheektowaga. McGoy, who earned a Purple Heart while serving in Afghanistan, says the gift is more than he could have ever imagined.
He says he needs a little while for it to sink in, but then he plans on getting a dog.
Since it began in 2002, Operation Homefront has helped almost 600,000 families.
