HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB) - It was a great night for a long walk on the beach on the shores of Lake Erie.
The non-profit group "Alliance for the Great Lakes" teamed up with Barefoot Wine and the Hamburg Starbucks to spruce up Woodlawn Beach State Park. It's all part of the "Adopt-A-Beach" program, a volunteer effort to clean-up beaches and shorelines along all five Great Lakes.
Stephanie Kruger of the Hamburg Starbucks said, " The Great Lakes is 20 percent of the world's freshwater source and it's our backyard, so it's our duty to keep clean and people are willing to help out and do."
"Adopt-A-Beach" volunteers removed more than 32,000 pounds of trash across six states last year.
