BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A much anticipated exhibit is now open at the Buffalo Museum of Science. It offers an inside look at the inner workings of the human body.

Buffalo Museum of Science President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Mortenson said, "This is a remarkable and once in a lifetime exhibit experience."

Wednesday, Mortenson announced the Museum of Science's newest exhibit - Body Worlds, actual human specimens on display. In particular, one exhibit focuses on the heart.

What catches most eyes is how each display is configured. The creator of the exhibit says it's not always easy for the lay person accept they are looking at a lifeless body, so how it's displayed helps a great deal.

Designer Doctor Angelina Whalley said, "The more dramatic, the more they look like frozen in the moment, the more they stay in people's minds."

But while the exhibit does provide a lot of answers about decease and knowledge about the human body with it's more than 200 human specimens, it doesn't come without it's share of controversy.

The exhibit has come under fire throughout it's existence such as speculation that the actual human specimens donated for this exhibit could have been Chinese slaves for instance.

The co-creator of the display says the rumors stem from loose talk on the Internet.

Dr. Whalley said, "Here in Body Worlds, I can guarantee that all specimens we are looking at are originating from a unique body donation program."

Whalley also says that the reason why such an exhibit is not on display in larger cities like New York, is because most museums there focus solely on art where as this is a combination of art and science. So until the fall at least, New York's loss looks to be Buffalo's gain.
