Five people rescued from Buffalo Creek

They became stuck on a raft

WEST SENECA, N.Y. (WIVB) - The images News 4 is gathering of the widespread damage are both dramatic and devastating. Sunday's storms are now blamed for two deaths, and many close calls.

Monday night, firefighters had to rescue five people from the raging waters of Buffalo Creek in West Seneca.

It all began about 7:30, when four people became stuck on a raft. Another person jumped in to help them, only to become stranded as well.

When rescuers arrived minutes later, all five victims were holding on for life.

Union Fire Company Chief Gary Mack said, "They threw them a rope bag, and they grabbed onto the rope bag and they pulled them across the water and they got 'em out of the water. If anybody gets anything out of this, please stay out of the water."
