Flight 3407 victim honored by Alma mater

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart honored the life and memory of one of it's own Thursday night.

Beverly Eckert was honored posthumously with an alumni award at Transit Valley Country Club in Amherst.

Beverly sister, Karen, accepted the award on her late sister’s behalf. “Sacred Heart Academy went a long way to shaping my sister Beverly, and produced a great woman,” said Raymond Eckert, Beverly’s brother.

Beverly’s husband, Sean Rooney, was killed in the September 11th attacks. She was returning to Buffalo, her hometown, to mark what would have been Sean’s birthday when Flight 3407 crashed.

He was a graduate of Canisius High School. Her family is now setting up a scholarship in her honor to help future students attend Sacred Heart.
