NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) - A former North Tonawanda resident, who is a registered nurse, has been sentenced to three years in federal prison in Georgia for selling an illegal drug online to a teenager who later died from an overdose.
Matthew Schroeder, 29, was convicted in August after pleading guilty to dispensing the ‘party drug’, phenazepam, without a prescription. The drug was sold on e-Bay while he was still living in North Tonawanda.
Phenazepam, is similar in effect to Valium and is not listed as a controlled substance under federal drug laws.
An 18-year old who was partying with friends in Acworth, Georgia died after taking the substance with alcohol on the night of August 24, 2010.
