ALBION, N.Y. (WIVB) - A former Buffalo State College police officer is going to prison for the death of his girlfriend.
Late Friday afternoon, an Orleans County Court judge sentenced Richard McKeon to twenty years behind bars.
Prosecutors say McKeon strangled Maureen Migliore last year, dumped her body, then set it on fire.
McKeon pleaded guilty to manslaughter last October but wanted to withdraw that plea Friday.
The judge said no.
McKeon's former defense attorney John Nuchereno said, "He's a most fortunate man. He was trying to avoid the inevitable, which was going to state prison."
McKeon originally faced 25 years to life on the intial murder charge.
