EAST PEMBROKE, N.Y. (WIVB) - No one was seriously hurt Thursday when a car slammed into a firehouse in East Pembroke.
The crash on West Main Road around 4 p.m. caused enough damage that firefighters at the East Pembroke Fire Station are currently unable to get their trucks out. State Police say the female driver was traveling east on Route 5 when she blacked out from a medical condition. She crossed into the westbound lane, went airborne after hitting a curb and smashed into the front of the station.
"She lost control of her vehicle. By what we know so far, she was blacked out at the wheel; she was passed out. Some type of medical emergency," said State Trooper Mark Catanzaro.
Police say she was taken to ECMC with non-life threatening injuries. The station will be closed for several weeks as the building has been deemed unsafe.
In the meantime, the fire trucks will be housed down the street at Ron and Newt's Automotive Shop.
