STAFFORD, N.Y.(WIVB) - Seventeen-year old Collin Crane of Batavia was killed Saturday night during a traffic accident on State Route 33 in the Town of Stafford.

According to state police, Crane, a high school student at Batavia High School, was traveling west and swerved into the opposite lane hitting 49-year old Carmen Vega of LeRoy.

State Police say the accident was unavoidable for the eastbound vehicle.

Vega was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with serious injuries. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police also say that neither drugs or alcohol appear to be factors, but the investigation is ongoing.

A Facebook memorial page for Collin Crane has already been set up. According to his friends, Collin was an avid hockey player. Other described his warm and funny personality.

The Batavia Superintendent of Schools released a statement saying in part: "The Batavia City School District Board, staff and students grieve with his family and our community.... Grief counseling will be made available at Batavia High School..." She continued, "Our thoughts are with Collins family and close friends during this very difficult time".
