Homeowner burned while home was on fire

ALABAMA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Alabama Firefighters responded to a Genesee County home fire early Sunday morning.

Gerald Ryder, 52-years-old, was listed in fair condition at ECMC’s Burn Intensive Care Unit one day after the fire.

While trying to put the chimney fire out, Ryder burned his hands and feet.

The home is a total loss however a three-car garage was saved.

Ryder’s girlfriend, dog, and one cat made it out safely but several cats died in the blaze.
