Motorcycle hits woman at Darien concert

DARIEN, N.Y. (WIVB) - Police say a woman was seriously injured when she attempted to cross heavy traffic on Route 77 in Darien Center Saturday night.

Around 8 p.m., troopers say 23-year-old Jessica Freeman, who was a passenger sitting in a vehicle stopped in the north bound lane, exited the vehicle and attempted to cross the roadway. Traffic was backed up because of a concert at Darien Lake headlined by singer Jason Aldean. As Freeman tried to get across the street, she was struck by a motorcycle driven by 35-year-old Frank Pfalzer of Akron.

NYS Trooper Timothy Ferris said, "She directed her attention to one side or one direction of travel, and apparently the motorcycle was approaching from the direction traveled from which she did not look. Essentially, she did not look both ways."

Freeman suffered head and facial wounds and was flown by Mercy Flight to ECMC. Pfalzer was not injured and was not ticketed.
