ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WIVB) - Billionaire businessman and former owner of the Buffalo Sabres, Tom Golisano, is getting closer to making a bid for the LA. Dodgers.

The Wall Street Journal today reports that Golisano says his representatives have been in contact with the Dodgers and with the Blackstone Group - the outfit which is handling the auction.

The baseball franchise carries a hefty pricetag, estimated to be in excess of $1 billion.

The newspaper quotes Golisano saying, "Basebal has been my favorite sport all my life, I would welcome the opportunity to own such a fine franchise."

In the interview with the Wall Street Journal Golisano points to the resurrection of the Buffalo Sabres under his ownership as evidence that he is capable of turning around a troubled sports franchise.
