BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - After repeated attempts to keep the doors open, it looks like it could soon be lights out for the landmark Statler Towers.
It's looking more like the Statler Hotel will be closing.
A bankruptcy hearing wrapped up shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday, with the court appointed trustee asking the bankruptcy judge to free up about $100,000 that was left over from a forfeited deposit.
This would begin the process of moth-balling the hotel.
Employees that have worked at the hotel have pay checks owed to them and the building must be winterized.
Also, there are back taxes totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars on the Statler that have yet to be paid.
The bankruptcy judge has approved the trustee to begin the winding down of the hotel.
New 4's Investigative Reporter Luke Moretti has the story.
