BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Sixteen local athletes competed on Saturday for a chance to play for the Buffalo Warriors.
The basketball team is currently in their second year, but is in their first year with owner Edward Bednarz.
The team is one of 24 that is part of the newly formed IBA-PBL Basketball League which was a merger of the Independent Basketball Association and the Premier Basketball League.
Bednarz along with Pat Fussell the teams coach, has been scouting players and have about 8 under contract.
One of those eight is a former Harlem Globetrotter, Anthony Cox.
Bednarz said, "We are allowed to have 15 guys per team. I have been signing players all over the world."
Ali Ramadan played for the team in 2012 and is hoping for another shot with the team this year.
"This is what I do every day; playing for this team could help me out, get me somewhere overseas or in the NBA one day." said Ramadan.
He also spent time in the ABA with the Georgia Gwizzlies.
The Buffalo Warriors will play at the Fairground Event Center in Hamburg with their first home game on March 27th.
The bar is set high for the season as they will play a total of 20 games with 15 of them at home.
For more information on the team, check out the Buffalo Warriors website.
