NEWSTEAD, N.Y. (WIVB) - State Police and Mercy Flight were called to respond to an accident at South Newstead and Route 5 in Newstead.
According to police, a car was traveling westbound on South Newstead, turning left onto Route 5. Police believe the driver may have been blinded by the sun, and when they went to turn off of South Newstead, they were struck by a tractor trailer. Police say the driver of the tractor trailer tried to brake, but the car struck the semi, and the semi hit the Jeep in front of it. In the car was a grandmother behind the wheel and three young children. Two of the children were taken to the hospital by Mercy Flight, and a third was taken by ambulance. No names are being released at this time. All of the victims were taken to ECMC. The driver of the Jeep and semi are believed to have minor, non-life threatening injuries.
