A bill to extend unemployment benefits and the tax credits for homebuyers is waiting for President Obama's signature.
Thursday afternoon, the House overwhelmingly passed a $24 billion dollar economic package that will help out millions who have lost their jobs.
The nearly two million Americans out of jobs or in danger of exhausting their unemployment benefits would receive up to 20 weeks in additional benefits.
John Lewis said, "These are not people who want handouts. These are people who want to work."
"I hope my colleagues will start thinking about what Ronald Reagan did, because the deficit was so high and inflation was so high and that is cut taxes," explained Dan Burton.
Under the measure, the $8,000 tax credit for first time homebuyers would also be extended for seven months and expanded with a $6,500 credit for some prospective homebuyers who already own homes.
