BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Everyone made it out safely as flames ripped through a north Buffalo apartment building early Monday. Some of Buffalo's bravest who responded to the fire, are remembering a fallen brother, who lost his life in the line of duty.
"These guys out our lives on the line everyday and every once in a while it catches up with us, we but their name on the rig so we want to remember them forever," said Captain John Murphy, Ladder 7.
Painted on the side of a fire truck is the name of Jonathan Croom.
"Jonathon is a guy from our crew that perished from a fire in August. We honor him in a special way by putting his name on our rig," said Murphy.
"Yesterday we had a little birthday remembrance for him. Some members of the family were over at the fire house. It was nice to remember him that way," Murphy said.
Now every time firefighters open that door, they can look up, and remember their fallen brother from Ladder 7.
"It's been tough, we all loved Jon he was a great guy a great fireman, and we miss him but we got to keep getting on the rig everyday and doing the job. But it's good to have his name on the rig, to have him riding with us on the rig, and remember him finally, a lot of good memories," said Murphy.
