MACHIAS, N.Y. (WIVB) - They are known as the boys.

In a community where everyone seems to know each other, neighbors are working together on a major makeover to help two children with a rare genetic disorder, live more comfortably.

Dalton and Wyatt Eisenhardt, on construction equipment, are happy children.

Their mother says the boys are a blessing from God.

Vicki Eisenhardt explained, "They have a rare chromosome disorder, which basically affected every organ in their body with the exception of the brain."

The brothers weren't expected to live long.

They are now ten and eight years old.

"They are the only two to date that we know of, that have this in the nation," she said.

In Machias, people come together to build a new home for the boys in an effort to make their lives more comfortable.

Christian Youth Corps Director, Pete Andrews said, "They continue to grow and need more oxygen, supplies and materials and stuff. They need more supplies and room for their therapy, their equipment that they use for breathing and so forth, as well."

The American Legion and Christian Youth Corps have been leading the effort.

The work being done is made possible by an extended family opening its collective heart and wallet.

"Small donations come together to do this. Probably our average donation is around $25.00," Pete remarked.

On this day, the boys as they are known in the community, have fun with the volunteers.

A chance to meet and greet.

Mother, Vicki said, "The boys are really excited. They are overwhelmed. They keep thanking people."

For the Eisenhardt family, the new home expected to be completed soon is a big deal.

"It's going to make a world of difference. We are going to have basically twice the amount of room for storage, for equipment. We're going to have more room for a school room and a pt room," Vicki exclaimed.
