GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) - A controversial bracelet has parents and teachers taking sides in upstate New York.
15-year-old Nick Morgan of Glens Falls came to class wearing a bracelet with the slogan, "I love boobies."
The science teacher asked him to take it off and scheduled him to go for detention.
But his mother wouldn't let him go, because she says her son was only trying to raise breast cancer awareness.
Mother, Barbara Gifford said, "I do think she overreacted. She should've embraced, in my opinion, the fact that here's this 15-year-old kid that feels so passionately about breast cancer and cancer in general."
Superintendent Jim McCarthy explained, "If there's something which is going to be distracting the educational process, they're going to be asked to either turn that shirt inside out or remove it and put on a different kind of a shirt. And this situation is pretty much a prototype of that."
Nick and his mother said they're open to meeting school officials and discussing less controversial ways to support cancer research.
