BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - It's the jaw-dropping verdict that has stunned western New York. Dr. James Corasanti not guilty on all felony counts in connection with Alix Rice's tragic death.
The shocking verdict was delivered following two days of deliberations in the deadly hit and run case that claimed Rice's young life.
Erie County DA Frank Sedita's can't believe that the jury found Dr. James Corasanti not guilty of hitting and killing 18-year-old skateboarder Alexandria Rice.
Frank Sedita said, “We are disappointed, and frankly shocked at the verdict.”
In front of a stunned and almost silent court room, Corasanti was acquitted of all felony charges, only being found guilty of common law DWI, a misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail.

Erie County District Attorney "I was surprised that they didn't come back with a manslaughter count, but I was shocked that they didn't come back with a guilty on leaving the scene.”
Sedita praised his team for their effort in the case, coming in night after night and weekend after weekend, building a case they thought was very strong.
Sedita said, “The jury apparently chose to credit the testimony of Dr. Corasanti and to believe the version of events and various explanations put forth."
Prosecutor James Bargnesi had little to say, as he was leaving court.
“Disappointed, but respect the jurors verdict.” Bargnesi said. “What I would say to the Alix Rice family, is that I'm sorry. I wish the verdict would have been different.”
