Corasanti's attorney reacts to sentence

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Dr. James Corasanti's attorney Joel Daniels reacted to his client's sentencing Thursday, outside of Erie County Court.

Joel Daniels said, “We were ready for this and we’re not going to appeal.”

Corasanti was sentenced to one year in jail, a $1,000 fine, an ignition interlock device for one year and has had his driver's license revoked for six months.

Corasanti was sentenced Thursday morning for misdemeanor DWI, relating to the hit-and-run crash that killed Alix Rice.

In court, Daniels read letters from people whose lives were saved by Corasanti. He has unique skills that can benefit the uninsured or physically disabled at Baker Victory Services, Daniels told the judge.

He even cited a letter from former congressman Jack Quinn, stating how Corasanti used to be president of the ECC Board, and that Corasanti continues to fund two scholarships out of his own money.

Joel Daniels said it’s time for this book to close. Daniels said, “We’re not surprised. It was a tough decision for the judge, I’m sure she was under a lot of pressure. We intend to serve that time. When we’re finished with the sentence, we will go back to what we do best, treating people and saving lives. We’re not filing any appeal, we’re not asking for any stay, just serve the sentence and move on.”
