BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Local artists showed off their talents, proving a disability is no impediment.

The Starlight Studio and Art Gallery's Art Club meets every Wednesday night. In this open studio environment, people with learning disabilities develop their artistic expression.

Participants explore many different types of art, including painting, drawing, print making, and sculpture. Professional artists from around the region also provide workshops that focus on photography, weaving, and origami. Many artists agree that the best part of the club is being able to create and do something that they love.

Mary Schneider said, "Everything! I like to try new things."

"It's fun you get out of the house," added John Price.

Mimi Miller commented, "I love it! I free-hand paint."

Carrie Marcotte, Director of the Starlight Studio, said, "Iit is truly about people discovering themselves as artists. So somebody joins because they are interested in making art. I think that there is a lot of self discovery that comes from that. They might think that they don't have talent or couldn't do it as well as somebody else can, and then they find out that they can do it."

The studio also displays a lot of the artwork, and some of the artists sell or display it in exhibits across western New York. For more information on Starlight Studio, follow this link .
