ATTICA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Plans to put out the fire at Hillcrest Industries, in Attica, wrapped up ahead of schedule. On Sunday, the fire was fully extinguished according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

The EPA says they are arranging the plastic and glass piles on site to a more manageable size, to avoid re ignition. They say a fire management and temperature monitoring plan will be in place until the material is processed and removed from the site.

The EPA began to put out the fire September 29th. The 40-foot high pile of recyclable materials had fires burning deep inside it. The smell permeated the air, almost like a cigar, but more harsh and much stronger.
