Emergency response conducted in WNY

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Members of the New York Air National Guard are preparing for medical emergency in Western New York.

Aeromedical personnel are taking part a program called, Exercise Vigilant Guard.

More than 1,300 national guard troops and first responders are part of the largest joint emergency response exercise ever conducted in Western New York.

On Tuesday, they practiced moving patients and treating them while on board a large aircraft.

"It's exactly what we would do, in a war zone. Just came back from a 120 day deployment and this is what we would do in the United States or overseas."

The training exercises will take place in various locations through Friday.
