BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) - Fire drove a number of residents out of a house on Buffalo's east side this morning.

The flames broke out on the second floor of a house on Locust Street and quickly spread to the third floor. Crews went through all floors to make certain everyone got out safely.

Buffalo Fire Division Chief John Mogavero said, "This appears to be an occupancy which may house multiple residents. It's not per se an apartment building but it may be a type of rooming house. So there were a lot of individuals that could have been exposed in this fire."

Mogavero put the damage tab at $40,000. The cause remains under investigation.
