It's time for the 4th annual Pumpkinville event and they grow them big and orange in Great Valley.

Christy Harp said, "This is a hobby gone mad. It is an extreme obsession."

"There's 27 giant pumpkins here today, folks from three states. Ohio, Pennsylvania and of course, New York," explained Dan Pawlowski.

Forget the forks for pumpkin pie - forklifts are needed to move these gourds across the ground.

"We're going to weigh some pumpkins, probably over 1,500 pounds is our hope today," Dan said.

One of the competitors was able to set a new world record at a pumpkin weigh off on Saturday in Ohio.

"We weighed a pumpkin that was 1,725 pounds and that beat the world record that was set in 2007," Christy explained.

If you think it's easy growing a gourd this size, Christy says think again.

"It's a ton of work. Every day we are out in the patch until after dark pulling the weeds. We're watering them about six hours a day," she said.

"A lot of natural things. We put a lot of compost down in the spring. And then we feed them seaweed, fishing mulch and molasses," she explained when asked what these giant pumpkins are fed.

The winning pumpkin tipped the scale at 1,341 pounds which was a sight to see for a visitor thousands of miles from home.

"We're extremely impressed. I have never seen pumpkins this big before," said Marie Holmes who had traveled all the way from Australia.
