Judge gives scammer probation

TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) - A woman who confessed to scamming hundreds of dollars from people is giving back to those she took advantage of. Terry Lyn Jarvis appeared in court Friday for sentencing and had one statement to make to Judge William Boller, “You won’t see me back.”

Jarvis was facing the maximum of two-and-a-half to seven years in prison, for third-degree welfare fraud, but will only serve probation. She pleaded guilty in June, after receiving welfare benefits while raking in money from her fraudulent snow plow company, where she scammed people out of thousands of dollars.

In addition, she never reported the income she made from her plowing company. But as the judge promised her at her last court appearance, if she paid her restitution in full, she would be looking at probation.

The judge says he hopes she’s done ripping off people. Jarvis will be on probation for five years. She will also have to do 500 hours of community service.
