BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Buffalo fire crews arrived at North Park Avenue around 1 a.m. Monday, where large flames were shooting from an apartment house.

"We had companies responding, when they got on location they noticed fire coming from the second floor rear," said Division Chief John Mogavero of the Buffalo Fire Department.

Four apartments, everyone made it out OK.

Mild November weather meant there were no strong winds to spread flames to neighboring homes.

"The fire department was terrific, they kept it away from the house I live in and contained to the top floors of the house that was burning," said neighbor Robin Morow.

Fire officials say a tenant who tried to put out an earlier fire on the second floor, should have called for help.

"We have preliminary reports that one of the residents attempted to extinguish a fire earlier in the evening and tried to remove some of the material to the outside," said Mogavero.

Division Chief John Mogavero says that tenant didn't completely extinguish the fire, which rekindled on the 2nd floor porch, creating an even bigger fire.

Mogavero said, "I just ask that if anyone has a situation where they're unsure and they have a fire in their house, call 911, let Buffalo Fire Department or fire department in your area, do their job to make sure it's out."

Damage is estimated at $125,000.
