Victim in fatal shooting now identified

Suspect still on the run

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The victim shot dead in Amherst is now identified. Police said Jesse Garnett was fatally shot in the apartment on Yale Avenue Monday night.

One person is dead after a shooting in Amherst. Amherst Police are looking for 24 year-old Andre Ridgeway. He's 5'6 about 150 pounds.

They said they want to question him about Monday night's fatal shooting.

"We heard four gun shots. A woman was sitting outside. Well, we seen one woman come outside with her baby. I guess she also live in the apartments," said witness Tawnee Tabb.

Tabb watched as a frantic mother carried her 2-year-old son out of an apartment on Yale Avenue in Amherst where a young man had been shot.

Officers arrived on scene around 9:30 Monday night. "The woman she was crying and police was holding her baby and we asked if the baby's ok and police. And then we heard police say we got him we got him."

Officers were referring to the 21-year-old male they found inside the apartment who suffered multiple gun shot wounds.

Emergency crews took him to ECMC where he was later pronounced dead. A suspect police want to question in connection with the shooting is 24 year-old Andre Ridgeway.

Police believe he is from Buffalo and are considering him armed and dangerous.
