Meeting set up for mom with investigators

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A mother wants justice in the death of her son, Marine Gunnery Sergeant Aaron Kenefick, after he was killed in a 2009 ambush that has prompted an investigation.

Susan Price says she and two other families of loved ones killed in the ambush now believe they were deliberately left to die. She says these are suspicions now, but more information not yet released will back prove the suspicions to be founded.

Price believes the responses to her son's call for help went beyond negligence. A helicopter that had been perhaps five or ten minutes away from providing backup was ordered to turn around. It would be close to two hours before help arrived, too late for Gunnary Sgt. Aaron Keneflick and three others who died that day, and one other who died later.

"For some reason unbeknown to us, that they wanted to ensure, after a couple of hours and a 150 Taliban firing at them, that the result of their death would, of course, occur. That is our personal belief," said Price.

Congresswoman Kathy Hochul has arranged a meeting between the Army and Marine investigators in the case and the families that lost sons in the ambush. She has met with the investigators and does not share Price's view of a possible conspiracy.

Rep. Hochul stated, "I did not draw my conclusion to that at all, and that's why I want her to hear the same answers, that she may have a different level of questioning. Again, I was there representing her voice as best I could, and the families, but they have other information I may not be aware of, and they have a right to ask that."

Price said her son was gathering intelligence on the mission in which he was killed. She said he also had inside information on contractors who had dealings with the military and worked with top echelon generals who had a role in conducting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

She questioned, "What did my son see? What was he a witness to? What was the underlying politics?"

Price says more information will surface in the next month. The private meeting between the families and investigators could take place several months from now.

The toughest question? Why was the rescue helicopter turned around only minutes away from a possible rescue?
