BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Fighting disease was the focus in Buffalo's Hispanic community on Friday.
The Father Belle Center hosted the seventh annual National
Latino Aids Awareness Day.
The event features free HIV and STD testing and information
about other health issues affecting hispanics.
Organizers said awareness is key.
Event organizer, Antonio Estrada said, "Education makes the difference. So we're here offering education. We're doing other things as far as tabling goes such as high blood pressure, cholesterol. But our focus is HIV."
Organizers said Latinos represent 15% of the U.S. population but make up nearly 20% of new HIV infections.
