LONG POINT (WIVB) - The gates remain padlocked at dozens of state parks across New York, including Long Point State Park in Chautauqua County.

But County Executive Greg Edwards is reassuring the public that the Marina at Long Point remains open despite the closures.

He says the news comes from Mark Thomas, the Western New York Regional Director of State Parks.

Edwards explained, "He assured me that Long Point is going to remain open, as it was promised before. Along with Midway Park, it's a great economic engine for us in Chautauqua County and it's a great tourism draw. It's an opportunity for us to have access to our great asset in Chautauqua County. He gave me that commitment. I know that Mark's a man of his word. He always has been, always will be, and he's a great advocate to have."

Edwards said he's hopeful that the park will re-open fully when a state budget is finally in place.
