WEST SENECA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Monday night was a very special night for the parents of Amanda Hansen.
The 16-year-old girl died of carbon monoxide poisoning while sleeping at a friend's house in January.
Monday night, the West Seneca Town Board agreed to rename Briarwood Park as "Children's Memorial Park," in memory of Amanda and all other children in the town who have died.
"It's a big positive for us. It's going to mean so much for the
community to have this park. It's going to be a place to go, when
we're done setting up the way we like, it's just going to be a nice
place to go to grieve and reflect and just look at what the future
could have been for us," said Amanda's father Ken Hansen.
A fundraiser is also underway in the town to raise money
toward the upkeep of the park.
