EVANS, N.Y. (WIVB) - Evans police said they've solved a New Era Cap caper with four
arrests. Police said over a four day period last year, four Buffalo
men were undetectable in walking away with $66,000 worth of
baseball caps from the New Era Cap company in Derby.
Police were able to recover more than 1400 baseball caps. It
took 11 months for investigators to crack this case.
Some of the caps cost as much as $125. Investigators said the
suspects tried to hit the jackpot locally.
Ernest Masullo from Town of Evans Police Department said,
"There was many stores in Buffalo and Cheektowaga involved which is
why the hats were recovered. They did cooperate with us."
When asked if they were approaching stores, Chief Masullo
said, "Yes. As the case developed it just got more intriguing and
more in depth on what they were doing with these caps."
Investigators said 1800 caps were stolen and they've
recovered most of them. The stores that bought the hot hats
cooperated with police and no charges will be filed against the
operators.
The suspects are charged with six counts of burglary.
