BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Monday's wild weather left quite a mess in western New York.
The inbound side of Route 5 in Lackawanna reopened around 10:30 a.m, between Ridge Road and Lake Avenue due to flooding.
The outbound direction reopened a little before 9 a.m.
Traffic virtually at a stand still Tuesday morning on Interstate 90 near Ridge Road.
An overflow of cars packed the Thruway because of this road closure.
Police shut down part of Route 5 between Ridge Road and Lake Avenue, the water was too deep.
From the Berg Road overpass you can see there was nothing rushed about this rush-hour traffic on the 219.
In Hamburg you could see and hear the waters from Lake Erie crashing along the break wall near Hoaks Restaurant.
Conditions have calmed down.
"When it rains this hard, you can't see the water till you get right up to it and once your car gets to deep in water your car is going to stall out," said Captain Jason Maslowski of Ucrest Fire District.
Monday night the Dick Road underpass in Cheektowaga was impassable.
At least five cars sat still on Route 33 after the torrential downpour kept emergency crews busy.
"We can go up to the car in a boat and get them in a boat, and luckily the water wasn't too deep we just walked them out through the water, and they went to an ambulance to get dried off and make sure nothing was wrong with them," said Maslowski.
