ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) - The voting began at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with more than 100 people in line.
After that early spike, a steady stream of Orchard Park residents filed through the town hall basement to cast their vote on downsizing.
More than 3,000 votes were cast.
More than 2,000 of them voted, "yes."
"Tonight, with clarity and confidence, Orchard Park voters embraced the future, a future of smaller government, fewer politicians and more citizen voice," said Downsizing Advocate Kevin Gaughan.
Gaughan estimates a $70,000 a year savings.
We asked voters if downsizing is worth it.
"I voted to downsize, because I think we have to start somewhere, we have too much government," said June Kreutzer.
John Bailey said, "Things are just fine in Orchard Park, and we don't need somebody like Kevin Gaughan coming from somewhere else, telling us how to fix ourselves when we're not broken."
