Rice family reacts to doctor's sentence

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Rice family reacted to Dr. James Corasanti's sentence Thursday morning, at a press conference. The family says they are relieved he got the maximum sentence. Alix Rice's father said that "nobody wins in this."

News 4 Legal Analyst Terry Connors, who is representing the Rice family in a civil suit, spoke with the family after the sentencing Thursday. He spoke about the family to News 4, “The overwhelming emotion that they feel is that no sentence, no matter how harsh it could be, could possibly sustain the loss that they experienced. They are still grieving, they still haven’t had closure, and while today was some measure of justice, they still can’t get over the fact that they lost their loves one forever.”

Corasanti was sentenced to one year in jail, a $1,000 fine, an ignition interlock device for one year and has had his driver's license revoked for six months.

Corasanti was sentenced Thursday morning for misdemeanor DWI, relating to the hit-and-run crash that killed Alix Rice.
