NIAGARA FALLS, NY (WIVB) - Authorities report a late night accident injured a Niagara Falls woman when she was struck by a vehicle while crossing Niagara Falls Boulevard.
Police say Christine Jamieson, 36, was critically injured after being struck while crossing the 5-lane road at approximately 11 p.m. Wednesday. She is currently in serious condition at the intensive care unit at ECMC.
Captain Salvatore Pino of the Niagara Falls Police Department described the accident to News 4, "The woman was struck and she went up over the hood of the car, striking her head on the windshield and then she fell off the car into the middle of the road."
Investigators say she was not crossing at a crosswalk, which Pino says can be extremely dangerous.
"Cross at the intersection, and use the crosswalk and the light to help cross Niagara Falls Boulevard. At this time of night it's not that busy but it is a busy road, it's 5 lanes, and not that it's dark - all the street lights were working - but it's still kind of dark," Pino said.
The driver, 37 year-old Frank Falcone was on his way home from work and had just stopped at a nearby convenience store. Falcone is not expected to face any charges as officers found no evidence of drinking, texting or speeding, according to police.
Jamieson could face a minor charge of unsafely crossing the street.
