Dog returns to ice after being rescued

WESTFIELD, N.Y. (WIVB) - A dog returned to ice on Lake Erie Tuesday morning, after the Sheriff's Air One helicopter rescued the dog.

The dog was returned to the shore, and took off running. The dog nipped Captain Kevin Caffery, Pilot of Air One, as he tried to save the dog. Then, the dog took off again, back onto the ice.

The Sheriff's Department is still in Westfield, trying to rescue the dog safely from the ice.

The Sheriff's Department first tried to help the dog Monday evening, about a quarter mile from shore.
