ORCHARD PARK, NY (WIVB) - Police across the area were out looking for drivers who may have had a little too much to drink while celebrating St. Patrick's Day.
East Aurora and Orchard Park Police joined forces with the Erie County Sheriff's Department for an overnight DWI checkpoint at Transit Rd. and Route 20A.
"Not only is it important that we enforce the laws and we do take offenders off the street but it's also very educational. A lot of times people don't know where these [checkpoints] are going to pop up," said said Lt. Mark Pacholec of the Orchard Park Police Department, "What's nice about tonight's event is that we immediately dropped from where we were over in West Falls and came over to here. County Emergency Services had enough equipment and personnel that we could literally drop in 15 minutes and be operational in a new town."
Officers say typically St. Patrick's Day is one of their busier nights of the year.
